Compositions and Methods for Treating Inflammatory Disorders (Patent Application)

U.S. Patent Application 20110190372
Inventor: Harold Brem, and Marjana Tomic-Canic
August 4, 2011

This patent applies to the breakthrough discovery that certain microRNAs (small molecules of ribonucleic acid that regulate gene expression in the cell nucleus) are expressed abnormally in chronic venous ulcers. We have developed small molecules that can target these microRNAs in the cell, and are seeking funding to test these molecules to determine whether they are effective in overcoming wound repair defects. Our NIH grant application for this study has been scored and is awaiting approval pending the submission of additional data.
